About

Cathryn Paton is a licensed clinical social worker offering services to children, adolescent, and adult residents in Texas and New Jersey. She specializes in relationships, grief counseling, stress management, anxiety disorders, depression and life transitions. In her practice, Cathryn’s philosophy of care is person-centered and strength-based. She believes that human beings are hardwired for connection and that healing and transformation take place through relationships. She is deeply committed to creating a safe and non-judgmental space for individuals so that they can work collaboratively to create a connection based in authenticity. Her therapeutic style is warm, playful, accepting and affirming. She enjoys learning about her clients and building on what they are already doing well. Moreover, she believes that inside each of us is a wealth of tenacity and grit; as a therapist, she nurtures the resilience already within.

Cathryn’s interest in mental and behavioral health care developed when her career path veered from an interest in advocacy to clinical studies. Originally, she saw herself getting a job to advocate for policy changes to increase access to quality mental health care in the state of Texas. Then, an unforeseen string of events led her to take the only field internship left available in her first year of graduate school – a mental health therapist position at a middle school. She was skeptical at first but to her surprise, she fell in love with the work and her clients. She developed a curiosity and respect for the work that she still holds to this day. She continues to be grateful and honored by clients that invite her to work alongside them. She learns with them and stands in awe of their tenacious spirits.

Cathryn enjoys training parents and educators on trauma, attachment, and the power of positive relationships. She loves hiking through desert landscapes and swimming in Texas rivers. Her favorite place to be is at home cooking a big meal with friends and family.

We’re all just walking each other home. -Ram Dass
