Nancy Fernandez is a licensed clinical social worker offering services to children, adolescents and adults in California. She has a variety of clinical interests; however, she specializes in trauma and PTSD, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, attachment issues, substance abuse and family conflict.  In her practice, Nancy’s philosophy of care is centered around the belief that for one to become self-aware, one needs to be willing to lean into discomfort, and relationships and connections are key to the therapeutic process. She believes in holistic healings that take into consideration the whole person – physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. As a clinicianshe demonstrates genuine concern and compassion for her clients’ dilemmas and helps facilitate them in solving their problems. Together, they set goals to achieve their desired outcomes.

Nancy’s interest in mental and behavioral healthcare developed after having gone through therapy as an adolescent.  At the start of her therapy sessions, she felt negatively towards them and found it difficult to express herself in any meaningful way. As time went on, Nancy became more self-aware and started addressing her underlying anxieties, anger and guilt. She no longer tended to respond to therapy in such a  negative manner and instead began to recognize her strengths and genuine desire to become a strong, mature adult who could show warmth, understanding and love. Looking back, therapy was a turning point in her life. Nancy has an authentic listening heart that desires to see people live as whole healthy individuals.

Nancy is the fourth of ten siblings. She loves to travel to Spain and spend time with family, where she is reminded to slow downenjoy life and not to take it for granted. She has two sons and six grandchildren.

“That is the way I was, but I fought against it and that is how I became what I am.”
