Suparna Basu, MD is a board-certified psychiatrist offering services to adult residents in New York. She has a vast array of clinical interests; however, her specializations are anxiety disorders, depression, mood disorders, schizophrenia and SAD.

Suparna is an experienced and compassionate psychiatrist with expertise in caring for a variety of mental health problems, often using a combination of medication and talk psychotherapy. In her practice, her approach to treatment is personalized to each individual’s unique history, difficulties, strengths, and aspirations. Her approach can best be described as interpersonal/humanistic, one in which the working relationship between an individual and her is every bit as important as any medication the individual might decide to use. She believes that mental health is much more than the absence of specific symptoms, and involves an increased understanding of how one’s feelings and thoughts can work for and against one’s sense of well-being.

Suparna’s interest in mental health care stems from the want to remove the stigma behind psychiatry, create awareness, and from her interest in data driven treatment.

Suparna loves cooking and nature. She dislikes exercising but works hard psychologically to incorporate it into her life.

“True courage and adventure is found in exploring the meaning of life and discovering the reason for your existence. Even greater joy and fulfillment is found in persistent struggle to contribute to others happiness.”
