Certified Professional Coder

Position Overview

The Certified Professional Coder is responsible for reviewing and accurately coding all professional service in compliance with applicable Medicare, Medicaid, and their party payor guidelines to ensure receipt of accurate reimbursement.  The coder is expected to adhere to Array internal coding policies and expectations. To perform this professional position successfully this individual must be able to perform each primary responsibility and job function accurately and independently. Knowledge of physician group practice, behavioral health, mental health, telehealth, standards of medical record maintenance and documentation, medical coding per Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Edition (ICD-10) standards, reimbursement concepts, commercial payor medical policies, and local/state/federal regulatory requirements. Demonstrated organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines, multi-task with the ability to prioritize, and work independently in a remote environment. Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills are required. This role will contribute to the day-to-day operations on issues related to the revenue cycle function and be an integral part on training the clinicians on documentation.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide consistent, accurate, and timely coding of medical records for appropriate billing and/or data collection
• Compiles and reviews patient chart documentation for accuracy, coding compliance and process adherence
• Communication and coordination of provider education sessions and written summaries
• Research applicable policies and regulations
• Work in denial queues to adjudicate claims
• Refile claims to the payors
• Work with internal revenue cycle and administrative teams to identify and manage 3^rd party payor denials, overpayment, and underpayment issues
• Serves as a resource along with the Internal Audit and Compliance team(s) for department billing staff regarding CPT/ICD10 coding
• Performs other duties as needed

Job Requirements

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credentialed with 2 – 5 years of medical coding experience in the defined specialty area
• Must maintain a valid and current coding certification
• Behavioral health, mental health, and telehealth experience
• Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA), preferred
• Working knowledge of the practices, procedures, and concepts of healthcare revenue cycle, preferably behavioral healthcare
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of all patients and/or employee information to assure patient and/or employee rights are protected
• Collaborate and accept direction
• Exhibits strong verbal and written communication and demonstrates excellent customer service skills
• Ability to be adaptable, working with challenging and demanding tasks
• Ability to quickly evaluate and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Demonstrate detail-orientation and superior time management skills
• Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Strong data entry skills
• Knowledge in EMR Applications (Athena, Mahler)

• Position is remote, based in EST or CST strongly preferred
• Full-time employment
• Reports to VP, Revenue Cycle
• FLSA Status: non-exempt, hourly
