Leah van der Kooy is a licensed professional counselor offering services to adolescents and adults in Georgia. She has many clinical interests, and her expertise includes behavioral disorders, addictions, school issues, mood disorders and anxiety/depression. Having been on both sides of the therapeutic relationship, the cornerstone of Leah’s practice is to enable the client to feel heard and understood.
Leah’s interest in behavioral health care stems from her own personal experience with a great deal of loss, stress, addition issues and perfectionism. After experiencing life-changing progress in her own personal therapy, Leah knew that she had to offer that gift back to the world.
Leah believes that there is immeasurable strength in allowing someone to help you. Vulnerability is the foundation of true, pivotal change and she is enthusiastically committed to help her community achieve health, happiness, and a sense of purpose in the world.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” Marianne Williamson
