MOUNT LAUREL, NJ – Dr. Nicole Christian-Brathwaite, Senior Vice President and Medical Director of Scheduled Care and AtHome Services for Array Behavioral Care, has been invited to present Grand Rounds at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Department of Psychiatry, on Thursday, May 13, 2021.
Dr. Christian-Brathwaite is a double board-certified adult and child and adolescent psychiatrist with special expertise in perinatal and post-partum mental health, trauma-informed care, telepsychiatry, school psychiatry, implicit bias and racism in mental health. She has extensive clinical experience treating children, adolescents, adults and families, especially those from diverse backgrounds and is committed to breaking down barriers to care, especially among underserved populations and communities of color.
In her presentation titled "The Impact of Racial Trauma on the Developing Brain," Dr. Christian-Brathwaite will discuss the psychological impact of adverse childhood experiences including trauma, depression, anxiety and abuse on underserved communities. Additionally, Dr. Christian-Brathwaite will dive in to help residents understand the intersection of trauma and racism and the long-lasting effects of this on families of color. Following this discussion, residents will be able to identify the impact that racism and microagressions have on the mental health of African Americans and Latino adolescents.
Dr. Christian-Brathwaite's Grand Rounds will be presented via videoconference and will be recorded for future education.
