Array Behavioral Care to Lead Discussion on Using Telebehavioral Health in Collaborative Care in Upcoming AHIP Webinar

Mt. Laurel, NJ and Chicago, IL – June 23, 2021 — Array Behavioral Care, the largest telepsychiatry service provider in the country and a thought leader in modern behavioral health care, today announced a collaboration with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan to co-present an America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) webinar titled “Using Telebehavioral Health in Collaborative Care.” During the webinar, which will take place Monday, June 28, 2021, at 1 p.m. ET, leaders from Array and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan will present strategies for health plans and providers to improve the integration of physical and behavioral health care with innovative payment models to cover the cost of care.

Due to nationwide shortages of psychiatrists, primary care and acute care providers are seeing upticks in demand for behavioral health care. Yet many are not equipped to appropriately meet this care need. Proactive integration of physical and behavioral health addresses this challenge and breaks down care silos by bringing qualified behavioral health specialists directly into the primary care setting.

During the webinar, James R. Varrell, MD, founder and Chief Medical Officer of Array Behavioral Care, will be joined by William Beecroft, MD, DLFAPA, Medical Director of Behavioral Health of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, to share their insights and experiences in the use of telebehavioral health in collaborative care. Key points that Dr. Varrell and Dr. Beecroft will focus on include:

  • How telepsychiatry can expand access to behavioral health specialists, improve patient outcomes and decrease the cost of care
  • The hallmarks of collaborative care, including care coordination, use of validated clinical screeners and rating scales for depression and anxiety and regular case reviews with a consulting psychiatrist
  • The barriers, benefits and best practices of virtual collaborative care
  • How teams of providers in Michigan are working together to treat the whole person, including their physical, behavioral and social needs

We’re experiencing a crisis in behavioral health care. Patients are showing up at their doctor’s office or local emergency room in need of psychiatric care with no psychiatrists in sight,” said Dr. Varrell. “Integrated, telebehavioral care approaches are transforming access to quality, timely care, and I look forward to sharing ways that plans and providers can work together to achieve this.”

“We’ve seen firsthand how a collaborative care model can help us properly care for patients with complex psychological and physical needs, leading to lower healthcare costs and better outcomes,” said Dr. Beecroft. “I’m happy to share the ‘dos and don’ts’ we’ve discovered so that others can build these models too.”
